The taxman calls Poles on the carpet. Refusal means punishment

The tax office calls on Poles to provide explanations. The reason is unusual, because it concerns visits to doctors. Refusal to answer may result in penalties.

The Tax Office wants explanations from Poles regarding their visits to doctors. Although the inspections concern only medics, refusing to answer may result in a penalty – writes Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

The taxman is questioning Poles

The Tax Office is checking whether doctors and medical facilities charge patient visits to cash registers. Therefore, he asks Poles whether during the visit they asked for, among other things, a prescription or sick leave, which is proof that the medical consultation took place.

Legal advisor Aleksandra Powierża explains that the basis for this type of questions is Art. 155 pairs 1 of the Tax Ordinance. On its basis, the tax authority may request an explanation or documents if they are necessary to resolve the case. He also warns that summoned persons should not ignore the tax office because – although the audit does not concern them themselves – it may result in the imposition of a penalty.

In practice, each of such requests is accompanied by a “friendly” warning that if the patient does not comply, the tax office “will be forced to undertake procedures aimed at punishing you with a disciplinary penalty or a fine, which is something you would like to avoid.”

– says Aleksandra Powierża.

The legal advisor believes that shifting the obligation to conduct evidentiary proceedings to patients is unethical. She also has doubts about how the tax office reaches out to patients.
