MacBook Air M5 officially. It’s supposed to be more expensive, but it’s still cheaper

So let’s start with the price. Well, the M4 model that is currently in front of me was priced at PLN 4,999 on the day of its premiere for the lowest variant with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB of data memory. The variant with 512 GB of data was priced at PLN 5,999. MacBook Air M5 was priced at PLN 5,499. However, in its case, the basic variant has a 512 GB drive. Therefore, in the lowest variant it is more expensive, but compared to last year’s equivalent in terms of memory size, it is cheaper.

Memory is, of course, a big leap. However, let’s also look at the most important change, the Apple M5 chip. It is a 10-core ARM processor with 4 efficient cores and 6 energy-saving ones. It also has an 8-core GPU on board in the cheaper version and a 10-core GPU in the case of a configuration with more memory. We also have 16 Neural Engine cores tailored to work with AI. We also got an Apple N1 chip for communication, which translates into support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

When it comes to memory, configurations from 16 to 32 GB RAM and from 512 GB to 4 TB of mass storage are possible. Depending on the variant, the screen is the well-known 13.6-inch Liquid Retina screen from its predecessor with a brightness of up to 500 nits and a resolution of 2560 × 1664 pixels, or 15.3-inch in the case of the larger version of the device.

MacBook Air M5 offers a battery that will last up to 18 hours and weighs only 1.23 kg, making it a great choice for working on the move. When it comes to ports, traditionally: it is poor. We only get two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support, which allow you to connect to two monitors and charge the device. However, the latter purpose will be used quite sporadically, because there is also a magnetic MagSafe 3, which is supposed to accept about 70 W of power during charging. On the other edge there is only a 3.5 mm jack port. We can choose from four colors: blue, silver, moonlight, and midnight.

Prices and availability

As I have already mentioned, the cheapest variant of the 13-inch MacBook Air M5 offers 512 GB of data memory and 16 GB RAM and costs PLN 5,499. Of course, with the expansion of memory and mass, prices will go up. As for the 15-inch version, we start at PLN 6,499.

These laptops will be available for pre-order tomorrow, March 4, from 3:15 p.m. They will be available in stores on March 11.
