This will be the first such watch from Samsung. Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 with 5G
Two years will soon have passed since the premiere of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, and there is more and more talk about its successor – the model Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The device has just had more leaks.
They show that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 (with the internal model number SM-L716) will, in addition to the existing 4G/LTE standard, be used 5G connectivity. What benefit will this have on the watch? It’s not about the gigabit data download speed, because it doesn’t matter that much in a smartwatch – no one will download large files or stream 4K video (although they can listen to streaming music). The point, however, is that data transmission via 5G is faster reduces modem activity timeand additionally, a newer modem should provide more stable coverage. In theory, this should translate into noticeably better working time on the built-in battery.
Samsung’s plans are a response to the moves of its biggest competitor. By introducing 5G, the Korean company wants to catch up with Applewhich presented a similar solution last fall in the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11 models. Apple Watches with 5G use 5G RedCap profile (Reduced Capability), which was designed specifically for smartwatches and IoT devices. Thanks to this, the modem consumes much less energy than full-fledged 5G systems known from smartphones.
There are also interesting leaks regarding the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 guidance system. This time, instead of Exynos W1000, Samsung will use the latest processor Snapdragon Wear Elite. This will also have a positive impact on the speed of work and, above all, energy efficiency. However, Galaxy Watch9 watches are to be powered by Exynos.
The official presentation of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is here scheduled for summer 2026. The watch will most likely debut in July during the next edition of the Galaxy Unpacked event. On the same stage we will also see the basic Galaxy Watch9 series and new foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8.
