An email with such content could be sent to anyone. They harass “randomly selected people”

Scammers present themselves as millionaires

Recently, more and more cases of e-mail messages in which the sender informs about an alleged winning of the American lottery have been reported to the police. He is very keen to donate some of the funds to “randomly selected people”. What characterizes such an email is the conspicuous, high amount of the donation in the content. In addition, the e-mail also contains an individual pickup code and a request for urgent return contact. People who receive such an email are selected randomly. One of this type of e-mails even reached the Police Station in Silesia.

This email is a scam, we won’t see any money

Such a message is an example of an online lottery scam or a Nigerian scam.

It involves forcing the victim into a fictitious transfer of a large sum of money. Criminals use manipulation and false stories to persuade the victim to pay smaller amounts allegedly necessary to complete the operation.

explains the police.

Fraudsters, as in the case of many other frauds, want only one thing – to make the recipient feel like a unique opportunity, and then persuade him to provide personal data, scan ID documents (because how else can you collect the donation?) or pay various processing fees. To make the story credible, they even send a “winning certificate” or a number of other fabricated documents.

In fact, no donation or winnings exist. Criminals want to access our account or steal our identity.

In the case of such an email, do not respond to it. Do not provide any data or contact the perpetrator.
