Apple is preparing for the worst. More and more production takes place in the USA
Apple noticeably increases the pace moving part of its production to the United States. The latest reports indicate a dynamic increase in production capacity servers at the Houston plant and plans to locate computer assembly there as well Mac mini. These are not symbolic image-building moves, but element of a broader strategy intended to protect the company against political and geopolitical shocks.
Currently, the capacity is approximately 10 servers per hour
Behind these decisions is not only the desire to fulfill previous investment promises to the Donald Trump administration, but also cool risk calculation. Apple has already adopted a two-pronged strategy in 2025 in response to growing tariff pressure. Initially, iPhone production was moved from China to India. And when the tariffs also applied to India, the company declared huge investments in the USA, amounting to USD 600 billion.
The plan includes building a national supply chain in the area of silicon design and production with the participation of companies such as Texas Instruments, Samsung Electronics and Amkor Technologyas well as cooperation with Corning when delivering glass for displays. The package also included the expansion of data centers and investments in new jobs and training. A special Manufacturing Academy has even been launched in Detroit, which is to educate staff for the developing production.
China is preparing to attack Taiwan
According to reports from The New York Times, American intelligence agencies warned the management of the largest technology companies beforethe growing risk of a Chinese invasion. Already in 2023, the boss CIAWilliam J. Burns, and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines were to provide such information, among others. Tim Cook, Jensen Huang and Lisa Susuggesting that Beijing may decide to take such a step by 2027.
For Apple, this would be an extremely dangerous scenarioas a huge part of the semiconductor supply chain remains concentrated in Taiwan, primarily in factories TSMC. Although the company is developing plants in Arizona, their scale is still far from what Taiwanese megafactories offer. Currently, there is one factory operating there, the second one is scheduled to open next year, and the third one is planned only at the end of the decade.
As a result, Apple’s moves in Houston should be viewed as an attempt to build a safety cushion. Even if American production does not fully replace Asian production, can mitigate the effects of a potential crisis. In a world where politics increasingly influences technology business, diversification ceases to be an option and becomes a necessity.
