Alior Bank warns. You better listen, because it affects everyone
QR codes have become one of the permanent elements of our everyday life. This small square may hide a lot of useful information, but also threats to our data or money. Alior Bank warns everyone about the latter.
Quick response codes, QR (Quick Response), are two-dimensional “barcodes” that have revolutionized the way we connect with information. A Japanese invention from 30 years ago has become ubiquitous in our everyday lives.
QR codes are very useful due to their simplicity and versatility. They can store various types of data, from URLs to contact details to location information. They are also very easy to use – just point your smartphone camera at the code to instantly access online content.
QR codes – convenience, but also a threat
The use of QR codes is wide, but they also carry risks. Until we scan a given code, we don’t really know what is hidden under it. This fact is increasingly being used by criminals who are looking for our data and money. Fake QR codes can lead to malicious websites or initiate the download of a dangerous application to our device.
One of the methods of operation of fraudsters is the so-called quishing. It involves the use of QR codes theft of login or financial data. And in extreme cases, this may even result in emptying our bank accounts or draining our credit cards.
Don’t get robbed!
Alior Bank warns against the dangers of fake QR codes. To protect yourself against quishing, it is worth following the tips listed below:
- do not provide banking login details on websites opened via QR code,
- watch out for suspicious promotions available after scanning the QR code,
- block access to the camera for external applications,
- before you scan a QR code in a public space, make sure it is not fake,
- If you suspect that your sensitive data has been stolen, inform your bank as soon as possible and report the matter to the police.

QR codes are a powerful tool in the digital age, but like any technology, they can be used for both good and evil. You should be aware of these and use them wisely to reap the benefits while protecting yourself from potential threats.
