AMD Kraken Point is Coming, It Will Offer Fast RAM Support

AMD is working on cheaper APUs for laptops and handhelds, and new information suggests a noticeable performance jump ahead.

Just a moment ago, new processors debuted on the market AMD Ryzen AI 300 for laptops and Ryzen 9000 for desktop computers. This does not mean, however, that the Reds do not have plans for further models. Their premiere is close, and thus, information is growing on the web.

AMD Kraken Point processors will arrive in 2025

This time AMD wants to refresh its portfolio of chipsets APUi.e. combinations of efficient CPU and iGPU. At least two different series are planned – higher positioned AMD Strix Halo and cheaper AMD Kraken Point. Both are based on architectures AMD Zen5 and RDNA3.5.

Lenovo revealed that AMD Kraken Point will support RAM LPDDR5x-8000. So it will be a noticeable performance boost compared to the ones already available AMD Strix Pointwhich officially support DDR5-5600 and LPDDR5X-7500 modules. The integrated graphics system will benefit from this in particular.

Apart from that, information about the new APUs is quite fragmentary. The leaks so far speak of 8-core configuration (4x Zen5 + 4x Zen5c), a graphics system with 8 CUs and an NPU with 50 TOPS. This would suggest that they will end up in cheaper laptops and handhelds.

AMD Strix Halo and AMD Kraken Point are expected to be unveiled in early January, during CES 2025 in Las Vegas (USA). However, the Reds did not confirm these revelations.
