Xiaomi with a small but great news. It’s strange that only now
Although the Bluetooth locator market is dominated by Apple and in the Android world by Samsung, other players are trying to enter this category of equipment. Motorola has its own locator, and now Xiaomi has joined this group. You could say that it’s strange that it’s only now, because it’s a company with a rich portfolio of smaller and larger smart devices.
A well-known leakster from the Xiaomi world, Kacper Skrzypek, reported on the X platform about the discovery of direct references to a new product – Xiaomi Tag – in the HyperOS system files.
Xiaomi oval pill
The found graphics and code sequences show that Xiaomi does not intend to experiment with strange designs. The locator is to have an oval shape known from the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2, and the manufacturer’s priority is functionality and solidity, not extravagance. However, in the shared graphics with the Xiaomi Tag sketch, there is no hole, known from the Samsung gadget.
Importantly for users, the device will be powered by a standard, easily replaceable CR2032 coin battery. This is a proven standard that, in competitive devices, provides from a year to even 500 days of operation (as in the recently presented Moto Tag 2).
The leak shows that Xiaomi Tag will hit the market in two variants. The basic version will only use Bluetooth connectivity, while the Pro edition will be equipped with UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology. The presence of UWB will allow you to precisely locate a lost item in close range (e.g. keys that have fallen behind the sofa) with an accuracy of centimeters, instead of relying only on the approximate strength of the Bluetooth signal.
Just peel off the foil and you can follow
HyperOS code analysis also reveals what the first configuration will look like. Xiaomi focuses on maximum simplicity – to pair the locator, just tear off the foil insulating the battery and bring the device close to the smartphone.
How will #XiaomiTag look? That’s what I found in #HyperOS code!
– Similar to Galaxy SmartTag 2
– 2 models: one with UWB, one without
– CR2032 battery, same as in Samsung
– looks like China only for now? (or CN app has only Chinese entries? We will see…) pic.twitter.com/KT3ayFXhs4— Kacper Skrzypek 🇵🇱 (@kacskrz) January 23, 2026
The system is to offer full integration with maps, notifications about leaving an item and security functions. It is planned, among others, trusted users mode, which will prevent false tracking alarms when traveling together with another person who has their own tag.
Traces in the code suggest that Xiaomi Tag will debut first in China and only later enter international markets. Dates and prices remain unknown for now.
