Nothing is more annoying than a clueless friend who suddenly sends us a message about the latest episode of the series. The problem is that we haven’t had time to watch it yet, so it serves as a huge spoiler, spoiling the joy of watching it. WhatsApp wants to get a handle on this.

WhatsApp is probably working on a new messenger feature that will allow users to protect themselves from possible spoilers. Such information appeared in the code of the latest version of the application. The new feature is not yet available to users, but there is clearly something to it.

The mechanism is supposed to be very simple. Now, when writing a message, users can format it by selecting, for example, bold or italic text. A new feature will be the ability to mark content as a spoiler. In this case, it will be covered with a gray bar. Only an additional click will completely reveal its content.

The information shows that text formatting will work similarly. Just put a double vertical line, i.e. “||”, before and after any spoiler. Thanks to this, the selected part of the message will also be marked as a spoiler.

At the moment, it is not known when the new feature will appear in the WhatsApp application. It is also an open question whether it will be limited only to text messages or whether it is possible to mark, for example, a photo as a spoiler.
