The tax office announces serious changes. It concerns taxpayer control

The head of the National Revenue Administration Marcin Łoboda admitted that in recent years the Treasury has often made decisions that are unfair to taxpayers. This must end.

Poles associate the Tax Office with an oppressive institution that, in its pursuit of results, often makes decisions that are not only incomprehensible, but also harmful to taxpayers. The head of the National Revenue Administration Marcin Łoboda and his deputy Zbigniew Stawicki admitted that this was indeed the case in recent years, but it has to end — Rzeczpospolita reports.

No more going where the money is

Marcin Łoboda and Zbigniew Stawicki described the last years of the tax office’s activity as “going where the money is”. They admitted that many decisions made at that time were unfair to taxpayers. One example was the refusal to refund VAT to companies that had been unwittingly drawn into fraudulent schemes, such as VAT carousels.

Every signal we receive about improper conduct by our authorities in the past is verified and we check what happened.

– said Stawicki in an interview with Rzeczpospolita.

The newspaper also cited two companies that had disputes with the tax authorities. Both began several years ago and continue to this day. In one case, a VAT refund of as much as PLN 4.9 million was withheld based on a single e-mail from commercial correspondence. This was enough for officials to conclude that the company was participating in a fraudulent scheme.

The heads of the National Revenue Administration promise that the newly appointed directors will be experienced, educated and competent people. All cases in which irregularities occurred are to be explained.
