AMD presents new AMD Granite Ridge processors. It's official
At night Polish time, AMD officially presented new Granite Ridge processors. The systems were created for desktop computers and are expected to bring a significant increase in performance compared to the previous generation.
Computex 2024 in Taiwan started at night. One of the most important events was the AMD presentation, where the company presented a whole range of new products. One of the most important announcements are new desktop processors from the Granite Ridge (Zen 5) series, i.e. the Ryzen 9000 series.
AMD Granite Ridge processors
In total, AMD is introducing four new processors: Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X. They all have a similar configuration to the Ryzen 7000 series models. This means a maximum of 16 cores in the highest variant, with support for 32 threads, because Red – unlike Intel – still offers SMT, i.e. multithreading.

According to AMD, the most powerful Ryzen 9 9950X model is 4 to 23 percent more efficient than Intel Core i9-14900K in games. (depending on the title) and from 7 to 56 percent. in utility applications. In total, the new systems will offer 16 percent more. better IPC (instructions per point) performance compared to the Ryzen 7000 series.

It is also worth mentioning that AMD has made several changes to the processor microarchitecture. These include higher throughput for front-end instructions and increased data throughput between caches. The processors are built in TSMC N4 lithography for chiplets and TSMC N6 for the I/O block. They support DDR5 memory and socket AM5, although at the same time AMD presented the new X870 chipset.
The new processors will hit stores on July 31. Prices are not known yet. In turn, at the end of the year, AMD is to present improved models with 3D V-Cache memory, i.e. the Ryzen 9000 X3D series.
