Apple to return $50 million to customers over a case from years ago

Apple, after many years of legal battle, has agreed to return 50 million dollars to users. This is due to faulty devices with a bitten apple. Payments will start soon.

In 2018, a class action lawsuit was filed against Apple in an American court. Dissatisfied users argued that devices with a bitten apple were defective. Although the Cupertino company maintains that this was not the case, it agreed to pay as much as $50 million in compensation.

Apple to return $50 million to customers

This whole case is about the so-called butterfly keyboards, which were installed in MacBooks between 2015 and 2018. Many customers complained that they were of poor quality. The buttons were not very responsive and could jam, making using the laptops unpleasant and sometimes even irritating.

For this reason, Apple was sued. The case dragged on since 2018, when the documents were filed in court, but it was not until 2022 that it reached its conclusion. The Cupertino company still maintains that the butterfly keyboards in MacBooks were not defective. Despite this, it was decided to pay compensation in the total amount of USD 50 million.

Individual users, depending on the severity of the problem, can expect a refund ranging from $50 to $395. Although the settlement was signed in 2022, payments will not begin until this month. Unfortunately, only those customers who took part in the class action lawsuit will receive them. These are mainly people from California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Washington.
