The Darkness is a new Icelandic crime film that will soon be available on the SkyShowtime platform. It will especially appeal to lovers of crime stories and Scandinavian productions. This promises to be a lot of fun, because there’s really nothing to spoil. The miniseries was based on the best-selling thriller series of the same title by Ragnar Jonasson. The production itself is actually English-language, but the whole thing was shot in atmospheric Reykjavik. The cast tempts with Oscar-worthy names, and there is no shortage of them behind the camera. The director is Lasse Hallstrom, whose credits include such films as Chocolate and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. When it comes to TV productions, yes The Darkness is the first in his career.
The Darkness – what is it about?
The series focuses on the fate of the rebellious detective Hulda Hermannsdottir, who has to solve a murder case while struggling with her own traumas. The woman is determined to find the murderer and finally retire. She is assigned a younger partner to help her, whom she is initially not convinced about.
The series consists of 6 episodes. The premiere is scheduled for November 1, 2024, on the SkyShowtime platform.
