The first one was a damaged iPhone. 5 entries in one day
Five people and five different scams
And all this in just one day. The officers received a report regarding fraud involving a damaged iPhone, the purchase of a car from a German website, a false link to the transaction, a package that did not match the order and its absence. The perpetrators had in common the fact that they operated on popular platforms – sales portals or Facebook and Instagram. All reports have been accepted and are under investigation. However, let’s take a look at this as a warning: what the fraudsters wanted and how they approached their victims this time.
1. Damaged iPhone for PLN 130
One of the victims found an attractive iPhone sale offer on OLX. The seller explained the low price, PLN 130, by the fact that the phone was slightly damaged. The woman transferred the money, but unfortunately the promised iPhone never arrived. Contact with the seller abruptly ended.
2. Dream car from a German website
The 61-year-old found an interesting offer to buy a Ford car on a German advertising website. After agreeing on the details of the purchase, he transferred over PLN 80,000 to the indicated account. The car was supposed to arrive within a few days. When this did not happen and the seller remained silent, he decided to report the matter to the police.
3. Fake “complete transaction” link
A 25-year-old resident of Zabrze put several clothes on sale. The merchant immediately contacted her and sent her a link with the information that she should “complete the transaction” there. The seller clicked the link and provided the BLIK code. It turned out that in this way the fraudster withdrew PLN 900 from her account.
4. A parcel with different contents
The senior ordered clothes via Facebook. When the parcel arrived, it turned out that the parcel contained only items that were worthless to her. The PLN 120 she paid was lost forever, because the seller no longer responded to her messages.
5. Expensive ointment from a beauty salon
A 31-year-old resident of Zabrze contacted an aesthetic medicine salon via Instagram. The woman ordered an ointment and paid PLN 100 for it. Despite the payment, the ointment never arrived.
The police remind us – be careful when shopping on advertising websites and social media. A low price is not a bargain, but an alarm signalthat we are dealing with a fraud. It is also important to use secure payment methodsoffered by given platforms – avoid transfers to private accounts without the possibility of verification.
