Scam on the security department

At the beginning of March, a 55-year-old woman reported to the police and told the officers about the theft that had happened to her. Earlier, she received a call from a man claiming to be a security employee from her bank.

The caller reported that the funds in the account were at risk. He recommended several steps to protect your money. The woman followed his instructions. She was constantly talking to scammers on the phone.

The “Kurier” collected the payment card

The criminals first performed remote operations on the victim’s account. Then a “courier” arrived at the place. The 55-year-old gave him her payment card without hesitation.

The fraudsters used the card to withdraw cash from ATMs. Total losses amounted to over PLN 26,000. The case was immediately investigated by detectives from the Kościerzyna police station.

Quick arrest of a teenager

The police interviewed witnesses and secured and analyzed surveillance footage. The operational work brought quick results. On March 11, a person was arrested in Gdańsk.

A 17-year-old Ukrainian citizen, permanently residing in Gdańsk, was caught by the police. He was charged with fraud and burglary. He faces a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. The court decided to temporarily arrest him for two months.

Don’t get robbed!

Fraudsters often impersonate bank employees by spoofing numbers on the phone display. A real bank employee never asks for logins and passwords. He also does not demand a payment card. Banks do not send couriers for documents or cards.

In case of a suspicious conversation, immediately hang up and call the bank’s hotline. The number should be checked on the official website of the institution. You must not install any programs at the request of the caller.
