PlayStation 6 without delays? They would cost too much

Console Sony PlayStation 5 debuted on the market in November 2020so almost six years ago. Looking at the specifications, this is it outdated equipmentand fans are clamoring next generation. Just recently, the Bloomberg news agency reported that PlayStation 6 may be delayed, even until 2029. Now, however, another source denies this.

Industry insider “Moore’s Law is Dead” claims that Sony PlayStation 6 will debut as planned at the turn of 2027/2028. It is true that the situation on the DRAM and NAND market complicated the Japanese plans, but it did not thwart them. And most importantly – 3nm lithography production capacity has already been secured from TSMC for the second quarter of 2027.

Of course, GDDR7 chips and SSD media are more expensive than last year. However, the APU project in the form of the Orion system in cooperation with AMD it has already consumed millions of dollars and the expenses for the rest of the components do not seem to be that important. For example, PlayStation 5 debuting during the COVID-19 pandemic also struggled with high transport prices.

However, a small delay cannot be ruled out – instead of late 2027, PS6 may appear in early 2028. However, this should not have a major impact on sales, especially given Sony’s dominant position in the stationary console market. Exact specifications and price remain unknown.
