Lidl overturns the table. Promotions available like never before

Lidl is testing a new product at checkouts

Discounts without scanning? In selected stores, customers can already count part of the promotion by simply entering the phone number at the self-service checkout. This is a significant change in the Lidl Plus loyalty program. This is also the first and clear signal that Lidl is starting to move away from a rigid model based solely on the application and scanning QR codes.

Until now, to reduce the price of purchases using discounts under the Lidl Plus loyalty program, the customer had to scan a QR code in the mobile application. This meant one thing – when his smartphone ran out of charge or he forgot the device, the discounts slipped away from under his nose. He couldn’t use them without a phone. Lidl decided to make life easier for these types of forgetful customers and wants to give them the opportunity to identify their account by providing the phone number assigned to the user’s profile.

The telephone number will only work at self-service checkouts

This is the plan and some Lidl stores are currently testing it. The new function only works at self-service checkouts. There is no point in asking cashiers who operate traditional cash registers for such a favor.

But this does not mean that Lidl is moving away from the application. Nothing could be more misleading. The telephone number will make the customer take advantage of one category of promotion – the so-called Lidl offers. The application will still tempt you with one-off Lidl Plus coupons, which require prior activation in the application and scanning of the QR code.

As we have already written on Telepolis.pl, as of yesterday, i.e. March 5, 2026, Lidl changed its regulations and introduced new rules.
