Everyone is perfectly aware of tense situation between China and the United Statesi. Both countries exchange new sanctions all the time. The goal is simple – limit the progress of the Middle Kingdom in the world of new technologies, especially in terms of artificial intelligence.

China wants to develop infrastructure near Beijing

For this purpose, the Chinese were cut off from the most efficient systems NVIDIA and AMDbut also production in plants TSMC. Solution? Development of domestic companies. This time it was a semiconductor manufacturer.

There are plans new factory operating on 300 mm silicon wafers, which will cost money to build and launch $4.6 billion (equivalent to approximately PLN 18.8 billion). The facility is to be managed by the state YDME (Beijing Yandong Microelectronics), which will have 24.95% of shares.

However, a large Chinese matrix manufacturer is also involved in the project, cooperating with, among others, from Apple, BOE Technologywhich is to invest USD 277 million for 10% of shares. In addition, there are significant investors Beijing Yizhuang Investmentstate-owned Capital Operations and Management and ZGC Group. They are to allocate USD 2.765 billion for this purpose. The rest will come from loans.

According to preliminary assumptions, the YDME factory is to offer processing capacity at the level of 370,000 silicon wafers per month by 2027. However, it should be noted that it will operate on old lithography – 28 nm and higher. For comparison, TSMC already offers a 3 nm process on a mass scale.

However, the goal for China is not the latest technologies, but developing semiconductor infrastructure in the Beijing area. Currently, it is mainly concentrated around Shanghai, which is called “China’s Silicon Valley”. Other companies are also planning new plants closer to the capital.
