The US is fighting for security. Ban on the Russian company

According to the decision of President Biden’s cabinet, Kaspersky Lab antivirus software will be banned in the US. The ban on the sale of the Russian company’s software will come into force at the end of September 2024. Kaspersky customers have 100 days to find a new supplier.

The administration of US President Joe Biden announced the plan prohibiting the sale of anti-virus software by the Russian company Kaspersky Lab in the United States – reported Reuters, citing information from a large client of the company related to critical infrastructure.

The reason for the decision is to be Kaspersky Lab’s close ties with the Russian government. US authorities are concerned that confidential data may be stolen and malware may be installed through Kaspersky programs.

Ban on selling Kaspersky Lab software in the USA will come into force on September 29, 100 days from the announcement of the restriction to give U.S. customers a chance to find a new supplier. New restrictions will block the ability to download updates, resell and license the product – selling under a different brand. The US authorities announced financial penalties and legal consequences for entities that do not comply with the ban.

Russian, US and Kaspersky Lab authorities refuse to comment on this matter

Reuters reports that a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Commerce was asked about the matter declined to commentand Kaspersky Lab and the Embassy of Russia did not respond to requests for comment. The decision of the president’s cabinet is another step in the restrictions imposed on Russia and Russian companies. It may also be related to the recent cyberattacks carried out by Russian hackers, for which the head of Microsoft explained not so long ago.
