A fashionable gadget saved the life of a 44-year-old man. Half of Poles have it

It turns out that health monitoring watches can sometimes save the user’s life. A 44-year-old firefighter experienced this firsthand and, thanks to his Apple Watch, ended up in the hospital on time.

A health monitoring watch saved the life of a firefighter who had a heart attack while playing hockey with his son. Travis Chalmers was in excellent condition, but still complained of a headache and an unusual feeling of warmth in his chest. However, he considered these symptoms to be a cold and completely ignored them.

However, when the Apple Watch informed him about an abnormal heart rhythm and deterioration of the heart rate, the 44-year-old man decided not to wait any longer and go to the nearest hospital. An irregular heart rhythm may indicate an impending stroke or heart failure. “At the hospital they told me I was probably having a heart attack.”. After a series of tests, the diagnosis was confirmed.

I stayed in the hospital for a week because it turned out that one of my arteries was completely blocked.

– Travis said.

It turned out that it happened while playing hockey with his son. Being active and good condition means that such people should be more sensitive to disturbing signalsbenefits of a health monitoring watch.

Patients come to us with information they obtain from their mobile devices. This is a signal for us to conduct research. The device is able to detect abnormalities in the heart rhythm. Of course, in most cases there are other causes of atrial fibrillation. Not necessarily an immediate heart attack.

– says Dr. Ciorsti MacIntre, a cardiologist at the hospital in Halifax.

In other words, watches such as Apple Watch and other types of portable devices with this type of function can be successfully treated as first line of defense. They help warn about the problem and refer the patient to hospital for tests for analysis and an accurate diagnosis.
