Breakthrough news about a popular drug. Reduces the risk of heart attack
There is probably no more controversial drug in the world than the famous Ozempic, a favorite slimming agent among celebrities. However, the latest research has confirmed its positive effect in the fight against heart disease. There is an ongoing fight to extend the maximum duration of its use.
The latest research shows that Hollywood's favorite injection, whose main task is to fight obesity can significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and strokes. Regardless of how much weight patients lose while taking the drug.
Ozermpic a cure for heart disease?
Scientists took a closer look at the effects of a substance contained in Ozempic, called semaglutide. It is nothing more than a prescription-only substance that suppresses appetite. It turned out all kinds anti-obesity vaccines may have a beneficial effect on improving circulation in adults. Professor John Deanfield, who led the study, confirmed that the drug can have a positive effect on blood sugar levels, blood pressure and a direct effect on the heart muscle and blood vessels. During a speech at the Congress on Obesity (ECO) in Venice, he stated:
We finally discovered that there is a class of drugs that will change the biology of this disease to the benefit of many people. This can be described as a major breakthrough that will be able to change cardiological practice (…) Now we have a class of drugs that can equally change the course of many chronic diseases associated with aging.
(Prof. John Deanfield)
The study lasted 5 years and was conducted within University College London (UCL). 17,604 adults from 41 countries, aged over 45, were surveyed.
How long can you take Ozempic?
In the analysis of prof. Deanfield, the issue arose of how long the drug should be taken for it to be safe. After 20 weeks on semaglutide, 62% of patients lost only 5% of their body weight, while those on placebo lost 10%. Despite losing weight, patients had a reduced risk of heart attack, stroke and heart failure.
This was not the only study that analyzed the health effects of a substance found in ozempic. The second study, presented in Venice and conducted by prof. Donna Ryan from New Orleans, analyzed the long-term effects of semaglutide on body weight.
The conclusions of both studies are that it is worth extending the maximum duration of drug use from 2 years to 4. Hollywood's favorite injection reduces the risk of heart disease by as much as 20%.
The most famous “face” of Ozempic is the singer Adele, who lost as much as 45 kg. But there are more and more people who support Ozempic, and those who admit to using it include: Elon Musk, Robbie Williams and Tori Spelling.
