Windows changes the start menu, but only if you want it to

Windows 11 is preparing a small change in the start menu. Fortunately, it will only appear to users who want it.

I suspect that many Windows 11 users don’t even realize that they can connect their computer to an Android or iOS phone. Thanks to this, you can reply to messages or receive notifications from your PC, and soon the mechanism will also allow you to quickly send files to a mobile device. This is also related to the new look of the start menu.

Windows 11 changes the start menu

Microsoft is preparing a new look for the start menu. The Redmond company wants this to display functions related to a phone connected using the Windows Phone Link application. For this purpose, an additional column will appear with basic functions, such as messages, photos, calls, a list of recent contacts or the phone’s charge level.

The new feature is not available in the stable version of Windows 11 for now. For now, Microsoft has launched tests in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3790 (or newer). Moreover, it is also necessary to install the Windows Phone Link application version 1.24052.124.0 or higher. The good news is that if you do not connect your computer to your phone, the additional bar should not be displayed. That’s why the novelty is only for those who actually want to use it.
