WhatsApp just lost a strong asset. Google News with a new feature
Location sharing is a feature that Google tested many months ago. Now, however, this facility is out of beta and anyone can use it on their Android phone.
No more static maps
Until now, Google News only allowed you to send a static pin with your location once. This address remained unchanged, even if the user had already left the place. The new live sharing option is fully dynamic. The recipient sees on the map how we are moving in real time.
This solution is perfect when we want to track someone’s return home, time it while traveling together or find our way more easily in a busy place. This option has always existed in WhatsApp or Messenger, and now you can use a regular SMS application for the same purpose.
How do I share my live location?
Using the new option is very simple and turning it on takes just a few seconds. To enable position tracking:
- Open Google Messages and chat with the person you want.
- Tap the plus icon to the left of the text box and select “Current Location.”
- Specify sharing time by selecting 1 hour, all day, or setting a custom limit.
- Press the send button.
A special panel will appear at the top of the chat window to let you know that location sharing is active, along with the time remaining until it ends. If you want to stop streaming faster, just tap this bar and select the stop button.
