Western Digital prezentuje wydajne HDD o pojemności 32 TB

Western Digital presents an efficient HDD with a capacity of 32 TB

Disc drives are not dead yet. Proof of this are new proposals from the American manufacturer, which tempt with high capacities.

Semiconductor media have virtually replaced hard drives from the consumer segment. For both desktops and laptops. The list of SSD advantages is long – greater efficiency, lower power consumption, silent operation, no moving parts, smaller dimensions and weight.

Toshiba is hot on Western Digital’s heels

However, HDDs also have their strengthssuch as high capacities, lower prices and easier data recovery in the event of a possible failure. That’s why they still dominate in server rooms and data centers. And it so happens that Western Digital has just released new models.

Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC690 are media with capacity up to 32 TBwhich are equipped with technology ePMR and up to 11 plates. This is a significant improvement over its predecessor (Ultrastar DC HC690) offering “only” up to 28 TB. The declared efficiency is to be maximum 257 MB/s for reading and writing.

The HDDs described will be available with both SATA III and SAS interfaces. The manufacturer describes them as a solution for servers working with artificial intelligence. They are ideal for storing data needed to train models, but also for storing created videos and images.

WD also announced a model Ultrastar DC HC590 with a capacity of up to 26 TB, which uses conventional magnetic reading technology (CMR) and is a direct successor to the HC580 model with a capacity of 24 TB. Here, the performance is slightly better and is expected to be up to 288 MB/s.

Western Digital is the current king in terms of data density. However, the competition is trying to overtake the Americans. In May, Toshiba achieved 32TB using heat-assisted magnetic recording technology (HAMR) and 31 TB using microwave-assisted writing (MAMR).
