This producer gave up. Instead of repairing it, the equipment was damaged more severely
Another story about problems with complaints about computer equipment is circulating on the Internet and shows that even well-known manufacturers can make a very costly mistake. This time, the MSI B650M Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard was at the center of the confusion, and the whole matter was publicized by a Reddit user who decided to describe his experiences after a failed warranty procedure.
The case concerns the platform for AMD Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors
The user sent the board to MSI authorized service center in Turkey due to the computer freezing issues. However, after returning the equipment, he discovered something he absolutely did not expect. The BIOS battery was missing from the board, but the pins in the processor socket were still there “crushed” (bent). As if that wasn’t enough, the socket cap came from another manufacturer (ASUS).
It is true that the processor socket covers are compatible, as long as we are talking about the same socket, but in this case everything points to simple carelessness of the service. A loosely installed cap could damage the pins during transport.
Despite reporting the problem and indicating that the board returned from the service center in worse condition than before shipment, MSI refused to accept the complaint. Instead, a paid repair of the processor socket was proposed for 1,250 Turkish liras, i.e. the equivalent of approximately PLN 100 + VAT.
The case is strange because the same board was previously sent for RMA three times, and the service did not find any defects each time. Of course, there are many possibilities – the motherboard wasn’t necessarily the problem, especially with the failure rate of the Ryzen 9000 series. The incompetence of the service technician is also an issue. This, however, does not change the fact that the damage caused by the service is difficult to accept.
Ultimately, the user decided to purchase a new motherboard. As he himself admitted, without recording the moment of unpacking the parcel, it would be impossible to prove that the destruction of the socket took place at the service center. Interestingly, he chose MSI again, this time the B850 Tomahawk Max.
