The bank employee asked for a PESEL number

It is therefore not surprising that shortly after that, the woman was contacted by an unknown man who introduced himself as a bank employee. The caller asked the woman for her PESEL number, date of birth and mother’s name for verification purposes. But that’s not all – during the conversation, text messages were sent to the woman’s phone. These were alleged alerts from the bank with codes. The man asked the 66-year-old woman to give him the last two digits of the codes and promised her that he would contact her again the next day.

During the second conversation, the woman’s husband was present and it was he who became suspicious about the authenticity of the entire incident. He told his wife to immediately disconnect the call and call the bank’s hotline herself.

After the woman called the facility herself, it became clear that the amount of PLN 211,000 was transferred from her account to an account in the United Arab Emirates.

The case is currently under investigation. But committing this type of crime of fraud involving property of significant value is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
