The government is targeting parcel lockers. Some may disappear
The government will take a closer look at parcel machines, including InPost parcel lockers. The new regulations may mean that companies will have to remove some machines.
The MPs intend to turn to the Ministry of Development and Technology. They want the ministry to introduce restrictions on the location of parcel machines. This is the result of a petition submitted by a woman who complains about the nuisance caused by the device placed close to her plot – reports Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
Will some parcel lockers disappear?
The author of the petition complains about the inconvenience caused by the parcel machine located next to her plot. He points out, among other things, cars parked nearby, blocking the sidewalk, doors slamming at night, and limited privacy because the machine is equipped with surveillance cameras. The woman proposes that in particularly justified situations it should be necessary to notify or obtain a decision on a building permit or development conditions.
However, regarding (…) issues related to the nuisance caused by parcel lockers, we kindly inform you that after receiving the desideratum from the Petition Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, this issue will be subjected to an in-depth analysis again.
– the Ministry of Development sent in response.
Currently, the construction of parcel machines, the height of which does not exceed 3 meters and are therefore not buildings, is not covered by construction law regulations.
Today, according to its art. 29 section 2 point 28 does not require a decision on a building permit or a notification for the construction of ATMs, ticket machines, cash deposit machines, vending machines, parcel storage machines or machines used to provide other types of services with a height of up to and including 3 m.
– adds the ministry.
The growing dissatisfaction with the number and location of parcel machines should not surprise anyone. There are currently over 50,000 in Poland. this type of devices. In just one year, their number increased by over 15.5 thousand. According to the latest data, the population of Poland is currently approximately 36.6 million people, which gives one parcel machine for every 732 people. This is already a huge number, and companies are announcing further investments of this type.
Although I am a fan of parcel machines and use them regularly, some regulations and restrictions are necessary. Within a short distance from my apartment, I can easily count at least a dozen parcel machines, including several parcel lockers. You may not agree with me, but this is getting a bit too much.
