A smartphone instead of a ballot box. The government presented plans
The government wants to introduce the possibility of voting in elections via the Internet in the future. Consultations on this matter are already underway.
We all know how the idea of envelope voting ended, costing us PLN 70 million and ultimately not taking place. However, the new government does not give up the idea of remote voting. Information on this subject was revealed by the current Minister of Digitization, Krzysztof Gawkowski, on Polsat News.
Voting via the Internet
The government wants Poles to be able to vote via the Internet in the near future. Krzysztof Gawkowski revealed that consultations on this matter are already underway, but there is no chance that this type of solution will appear during the presidential elections, which will probably take place in May 2025.
At the beginning of the year, I had a meeting with local government officials who told me that this is a process worth considering.
– said the Minister of Digitization.
This means that voting via the Internet will not be possible during this year’s elections to local governments, which should take place in spring, and to the European Parliament, which are scheduled for June.
Unfortunately, we do not know at what stage the consultations and work on the possibility of introducing voting in elections via the Internet are at. We will probably learn more details in the coming months.
At the same time, Gawkowski revealed that inter-ministerial work is underway to introduce an online system for registering visits to specialists. However, he warns that it takes long months, and sometimes even years, to connect individual systems. It definitely won’t happen during the quarter.
