Are you bothered by the small disk in MacBook Neo? We managed to install a 1 TB SSD

Apple MacBook Neo with a 4x larger disk

Apple’s new hardware is a great device for its price, but some models, especially the one with a 256 GB SSD, can be cumbersome to use for the modern user. And after all, Apple does not allow for independent expansion of storage memory – and not without reason. This is a really difficult and complex task, a risk of mechanical damage to systems computer knowledge is too high if you are a layman.

However, despite all this, a Chinese modder with a pseudonym DirectorFeng he accepted the challenge and decided to disassemble the device and add parts to it 1 TB disk with much higher writing and reading speeds than the one installed in the MacBook Neo.

To do this, he stripped the motherboard down to the bare laminate, he unsoldered the factory NAND chipshe did reballing and soldered new circuitsand later with special software reprogrammed NAND parametersforcing the system to accept them.

In addition to the increased capacity, we also have here slightly faster transfer speed – from 1500 MB/s to 1600 MB/s. However, at limited amount of RAM MacBook Neo must use the so-called swap (i.e. the operation of transferring data to SSD and back), which makes the real efficiency gain is minimal.

The experiment was generally interesting, but on the other hand not entirely practical. The cost of purchasing NAND chips and modification equipment makes this relatively cheap (for Apple) laptop suddenly not so affordable anymore.
