Do you have Windows? Do it now, Microsoft pleads in panic
Microsoft is sticking Windows out of the queue, it’s too big a threat
The critical network vulnerability has been deemed so severe that it requires an immediate response beyond the standard Patch Tuesday. The update is delivered as a so-called hotpatch – this means that it can be used on supported machines without a classic restart, which is intended to minimize downtime in companies.
The problem concerns the Windows network infrastructure, in particular routing and remote access services (RRAS), which in server and enterprise scenarios are crucial for VPNs and traffic between networks. The vulnerability allows remote code execution or server-side system hijacking, which is why Microsoft classifies it as critical and recommends immediate patching of all affected Windows 11 devices.
Simplified updating in companies
KB5084597 is made available to Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 devices that are hotpatched and most often managed by Windows Autopatch solutions or other enterprise tools. In practice, this means that administrators can deploy security in a production environment faster than traditional updates that require a reboot, which is of great importance for edge servers and data center machines.
It is worth recalling that in the March security updates, Microsoft has already patched over 80 vulnerabilities, including several critical remote code execution errors in network services. With the increasing number of attacks on VPN infrastructure and remote access gateways, ignoring KB5084597 can quickly translate into real security incidents – from hacks to business downtime.
If you have Windows updates disabled on your private computer, this is the time to go into the settings and let the system download security patches.
