AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 tested. It's the fastest

MSI has started releasing a new BIOS for the AMD AM5 platform to address the PCI Express interface malfunction. This is an error that causes the graphics card to run with significantly reduced bandwidth. Although this most often occurs on boards from this manufacturer, there are also reports of cases from ASUS and GIGABYTE.

Opinions are mixed – some people say there is no difference

We are talking here about a situation in which the GPU works in PCIe 5.0 x8 mode instead of PCIe 5.0 x16. There are also more serious cases where the card is blocked even to the PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 level, which may have a real impact on the performance of modern AMD and NVIDIA cards. It is worth emphasizing that this error appears irregularly and restarting the PC often helps.

Importantly, the reports concern both 600 and 800 series boards. Some users also suggest that AGESA 1.2.0.3 could have worsened the situation.

MSI had to try to reproduce the error in various configurations for a long time until it finally determined the source of the problem. There should be a specific combination of several elements, including the motherboard, BIOS version, AGESA microcode, processor and graphics card. The manufacturer has already prepared the first amendment – in the case of the MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi model, the new BIOS is marked “7E51v1A81”.

The first opinions after implementing the new BIOS are mixed. Some say the problem has gone away, others have not noticed any difference. Unfortunately, this is another example that the latest AMD platform is not a refined solution. Either way, it’s much better than the massively damaged Ryzen 9000X3D series processors, where AMD pretends there is no problem.
