Seagate is preparing a new SSD. The name will mislead many people

Seagate is a manufacturer associated mainly with HDDs, but Americans also offer SSDs. And this part of the portfolio will soon be expanded. Unfortunately, although the name would suggest a much more efficient solution than before, it will be mediocre like many others.

Seagate FireCuda X1070 is a semiconductor medium in M.2 2280. Although the bones and controller used are still a mystery, the interface was chosen PCI Express 4.0 x4 and protocol NVMe 1.4. We are talking about older standards, which clearly affects performance.

As one of the sellers said, there will be a choice three capacity variants – 1, 2 and 4 TB. In the strongest version we will get up to 7200 MB/s for reading and up to 6500 MB/s for sequential writing and up to 900,000 IOPS for reading and up to 1,000,000 IOPS for random recording.

These are still good parameters, but There have been a lot of faster SSDs on the market for a long time – also in Seagate’s offer. For two years now, the manufacturer’s portfolio has included, among others: “lower” model FireCuda 530R or three FireCuda 540. The latter is up to 2,800 MB/s and 500,000 IOPS more efficient.

So maybe the Seagate FireCuda X1070 will tempt you with its price? Unfortunately neither. The first offers in the USA are $829 for 4 TB, in the case of Europe we are talking about over EUR 1,000 (approximately PLN 4,279). Even with a 5-year warranty, there are definitely better choices in this segment.
