An exceptionally large planned “failure” at PKO Bank Polski

Looking at the number of messages, no Polish bank has as much technical work as PKO Bank Polski. However, none of them has that many customers and uses the bank’s services nearly 12 million Poles. At this point, we cannot blame the institution for constantly improving its IT systems, but we also need to be careful not to be left out in the cold at a critical moment for us.

Classically, BLIK will not workboth in cash deposit machines and ATMs of PKO Bank Polski, this time payment cards won’t work either. Moreover, we will not authorize online payments with a PIN within the 3D Secure transaction, and we will not change the card PIN in the IKO application or iPKO website or activate a new card.

Complete disconnection from contactless payments

Payment cards will not work in payment terminals or on the Internet. We cannot use BLIK for contactless payments and what’s more, none of the other modern forms of contactless payments will work eitherh serviced by PKO Bank Polski. So they won’t save us Google Pay, Apple Pay, Garmin Pay, Swatch Pay or Xiaomi Payadditionally, it will not be possible to connect these services to phones or watches.

Restrictions on cash withdrawals from ATMs will not only apply to PKO Bank Polski’s own ATM network, but also to ATMs of other companies. As the bank assures, the remaining functions of iPKO, the IKO application and the iPKO telephone service should work properly, but the institution suggests in the announcement to perform planned operations well in advance.

And this is earlier, before 0:45 on Monday, October 14. According to the bank’s announcement, IT specialists should complete their work in an hour, provided, of course, nothing explodes along the way. Due to the selected time of IT implementation, difficulties may mainly affect people making transactions on the Internet or traveling.
