Up to 8 penalty points due to the passenger’s fault. Intensified inspections from today
Roadpol, the European Road Traffic Police Organization, is behind the action. It lasts from March 9 to 15, 2026, and some may associate it with the name “Operation Seatbelt”. The point is to pay attention to whether drivers are wearing seat belts and whether passengers, especially the youngest ones, are transported in appropriate seats. This is the second action of this type carried out on such a large scale. The first one took place in February and involved checking truck and bus drivers. The current one is different in that it is focused mainly on passenger car drivers.
The passenger is at fault, the driver will pay
What exactly is this about? If a careless passenger ignores the obligation to wear a seat belt, the driver will suffer the consequences. One “forgetful” passenger will pay a PLN 100 fine and 5 penalty points. But if two or more passengers ignore this requirement, the policeman may issue a higher fine and as many as 8 penalty points.
If drivers have already committed any “offenses”, they may lose their driving license.
Penalties for not having a child seat – reminder
We would like to remind you that when transporting children, we are at risk of:
- 5 penalty points for one child transported contrary to applicable regulations.
- 10 penalty points for improperly transporting two children.
- 15 penalty points for transporting more than two children.
- For transporting a child less than 150 cm tall in the front seat without a seat (or installing a rear-facing seat with an active airbag), you may receive PLN 300 fine.
These types of intensified controls will end on March 15. But another large-scale road traffic campaign is already planned, related to the fight against excessive speed, “Operation Speed”. It will take place on April 13-19, 2026.
