We are increasingly paying this way. Some may have a problem

Deferred payments are taking the market by storm. As many as 73 percent of people currently choose this form of payment when making purchases in online stores. But not everyone pays on time.

According to the latest report published by CRIF as many as 73% of online shoppers use deferred BNPL payments (Buy Now Pay Later). The number of people who are also growing are in arrears with the repayment of liabilities at least three months.

It turned out that the average amount of this type of obligation also increased from PLN 295 in 2022 to PLN 355 in 2023. What is worth noting, along with the growing popularity of deferred payments the amount of traditional loans is decreasing. They dropped from 60% to 27%. No wonder, Deferred payments are a form of small credit, usually taken out for smaller transactions.

Consumers are borrowing less because they are able to finance two immediate needs with deferred payments. Unfortunately, not everyone repays their debts on time.

– explains Kamil GosÅ‚awski, CRIF manager.

As with credit cards, people need to be careful not to fall into a debt spiral. BNPL payments are difficult to recover and most often there is a need to use the services of debt collection companies. Deferred payments are most often used by people aged 25-34, but it is also a popular form in other age groups, among people up to 54 years of age. This is due to the fact that young people more often buy in online stores, and more often due to their young age they cannot afford a one-time payment for the desired product.

Deferred payments are taking the Polish market by storm, as we have already written about in Telepolis. According to CRIF data, in November 2023 alone, the number of such transactions increased by over 40% year-on-year. At that time, 1.21 million transactions were carried out for a total amount of PLN 412.5 million. In addition, many declarations were made that Poles want to use this type of payment more and more often in the future.
