Revolution at Google. It will be cheaper and easier to find an alternative
External payments and new stores
Developers are given a choice in how they handle transactions. They can implement their own payment system alongside Google’s solution. They also have the option to redirect users to external websites to complete their purchase.
The Mountain View giant is introducing a registered app store program. Its purpose is to simplify the process of installing software from outside the Play Store. Stores that meet security requirements will receive a shortened installation process on user devices. Participation in the program is optional. The new feature will appear with a major Android update at the end of this year.
New price list of services
Google separates the fee for using its own payment system from the overall service commission. The cost of processing payments through Google’s system will be 5% in the European Economic Area, Great Britain and the USA.
The service commission on intra-app transactions drops to 20% for new installations. The fee for renewable subscriptions will be 10%. Creators can also join new programs that promote high-quality software. Participants will pay a 15% commission on new installations and 20% on existing installations.
Change schedule and agreement with Epic
The implementation of the new price list was divided into stages. The changes will come into force by June 30 in the EEA, UK and US. They will cover Australia by September 30, and Korea and Japan by December 31. The rest of the world will wait until September 30, 2027 for the new rules.
Google also announced the global end of the legal dispute with Epic Games. Both companies reached a final agreement.
