Computer enthusiasts are well aware that all three manufacturers – AMD, NVIDIA and Intel – they are getting ready to premiere new generations of graphics cards. We’re talking about the series Radeon RX 8000, GeForce RTX 5000 and ARC Battlemage. However, only the Greens plan to offer higher-end models.
Want a new graphics card? Get ready to replace the power supply
It is assumed that the new graphics cards will be presented at the fair in January CES 2025 in Las Vegas (USA). They will be available in stores in the first quarter of next year. Unfortunately, information about specifications is scarce. Fortunately, one of the power supply manufacturers spilled the beans.
Corsair confirms that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000 cards will use the connector 12V-2X6i.e. the improved version 12VHPWR. This standard was introduced on a large scale with the GeForce RTX 4000 generation, but the signal pins were shortened after cases where consumers did not press the cable.
Americans also mention that “next-generation top graphics cards may require even more power than current models, which can draw up to 450 watts”. This would coincide with previous rumors, where the TGP GeForce RTX 5080 was referred to as 400 Wand GeForce RTX 5090 on 600W. Of course, as usual, it is worth waiting until the official premiere to make final conclusions.
What about AMD Radeon RX 8000 series and Intel ARC Battlemage? They will be much less power-hungry. Both Red and Blue want to attack only the low and mid-range segments this time price and performance. However, this is more of a necessity than a choice – none of the manufacturers has GPUs as efficient as Zieloni.
