We already knew that the series was popular in other countries. On Rotten Tomatoes itself, this adaptation received as many as 80 percent positive reviews, which can be considered an excellent start. All six episodes can be watched in Poland on the SkyShowtime platform. This series, since its premiere on February 26, has completely dominated the website’s top 10 list.

Currently, “Laleczka” takes 2nd place, ahead of, among others, “Landman”, “Ponies” and “Copenhagen Test”.

A teenage girl escapes from captivity and returns home five years after she was kidnapped by her teacher. Her family must face the trauma and regain control over their lives.

This is a pretty accurate summary of the show’s plot. It can also be added that the heroine is not only the kidnapped herself. The series is actually the story of twin sisters, Lily and Abby, whose lives fall apart when one of them is kidnapped. Worst of all, the crime was committed by a well-liked local teacher, Ricky Hansen (played by Alfie Allen, whom many people may recognize from the role of Theon Greyjoy in “Game of Thrones”). After many years, Lily manages to escape, but the long-awaited freedom turns out to be terribly difficult for her. The world she so desperately wanted to return to had moved on without her. Her perpetrator, in turn, is still at large and seems to still be in control of the entire situation.
