Game Boy Jukebox is a sentimental journey to youth
Pokemon Center has introduced a miniature “Game Boy Jukebox” for sale. This is a collectible music player styled after the classic Game Boy, which plays the soundtrack from Pokémon Red and Blue from replaceable “cartridges”.
The device is roughly one-third the size of the original console. It retains its characteristic design, including the colors of the buttons, the texture of the housing and the sound of the speaker). The device comes with 45 mini-cartridges, each corresponding to one melody or game sound effect.
After inserting the cartridge, graphics related to a given song appear on the small screen, and the player plays the original Game Boy sound, remastered for fidelity.
The Game Boy Jukebox retails for $69.99 and is sold exclusively at the Pokemon Center store as part of the series’ 30th anniversary celebration. Importantly, the gadget does not run games. It’s just a music player from the original Pokemon. It can be used as a gadget or desk decoration.
