No more TV subscription. New assumptions of the act officially announced

The new draft media law will eliminate the radio and television license fee. At last. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has just revealed the main assumptions of the document.

We wrote quite recently that the TV license fee was to be completely abolished, and there were also ideas about another source of financing. The project was in the idea phase for quite a long time, but now there has been a breakthrough. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage confirmed this information – a draft law is being prepared. The act will not only cover the abolition of the license fee, but will also abolish the National Media Council and propose a new method of appointing public media authorities.

What’s next for this RTV subscription?

The radio and television license fee should be paid by anyone who has a television or radio receiver. And it should absolutely not matter which channels we watch. According to the regulations, the mere possibility of having it is enough for the need to pay the fee to arise. However, we know that most Poles do not do this, they are tired of constant checks and imposed penalties. Hence, rightly, there are proposals for changes.

Liquidation of radio and television license fee

One would like to say, finally! The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has just revealed the main assumptions of the document.

Who will pay for media with a mission?

Well, liquidation is liquidation, but someone has to finance it. Will we have to pay more, but under a different name? It turns out that the act proposes financing the media from the state budget. According to estimated data, it should be approximately PLN 3 billion per year.

The current financing system does not guarantee the stability of the media. We propose abolishing the license fee to finance public media from the state budget. However, this does not mean the introduction of additional taxation. The assumptions are based on granting a guarantee of funds for the implementation of the public mission in the amount of at least 0.09% of GDP per year.

– we read in the ministry’s statement.

Public consultations on the new media law have just started. The ministry announced that they would last until September 23.
