Will AMD allow cheap gaming? New APUs are on the horizon

During January’s CES 2026, new AMD Gorgon Point series mobile processors were presented. It’s hard to talk about a revolution here, but more of an evolution. The focus was on already known architectures, such as Zen5, RDNA 3.5 and XDNA2. All in 4 nm lithography from TSMC. However, it looks like the same connection will be coming to desktop computers as well.

A maximum of 12 cores and 24 threads and an iGPU with 16 CU are expected

According to foreign sources – including: VideoCardz or Moore’s Law is Dead – The Reds plan to release new APUs for motherboards with the AM5 socket. We are talking here about units that combine a traditional CPU with an efficient iGPU. This allows you to play games and use other demanding programs without the need for a dedicated graphics card.

The AMD Ryzen AI 400 series for desktops is said to debut in the first half of this year, probably in March at MWC 2026 or Embedded World 2026. Of course, these are just guesses, because the Americans do not comment on these reports.

The exact specifications are still a secret. Looking at the mobile counterparts, we will get a maximum of 12 cores and 24 threads, an integrated graphics system with 16 CU and an NPU with a performance of up to 60 TOPS for AI-related tasks. However, as usual, the price will be the key, especially in the current market situation with expensive RAM and SSD modules.
