Lenovo admits: from March, electronics prices will skyrocket
CRN added a letter that Wade McFarland, head of Lenovo’s sales channel in North America, sent to his partners. Moreover, Lenovo itself confirmed its authenticity. But let’s get to the content. Well, the manufacturer warns that from March the prices of devices from the Intelligent Devices Group, which includes the above-mentioned categories, will go up significantly. Therefore, he encouraged people to place as many orders as possible before the end of February.
Prices of Lenovo devices will skyrocket
The reason for the price increase was also given. This is due to the higher prices of DRAM modules and NAND memory. Moreover, the changes will most likely be global. Information about it was simply leaked from the American sales department. This shows that the situation on the memory market has not calmed down at all, and the shortage of modules is causing such a problem for manufacturers that price increases have begun.
It is also obvious that Lenovo also had to take the competition into account. After all, an increase in the prices of their products will make devices with a different logo much more attractive. If, despite this, the company decided to make such a move, we can expect that the others will decide to repeat it soon.
Unfortunately, the leak does not indicate what price increase we will have to take into account. However, since this is caused by shortages of key components, soon not only the higher price of laptops or smartphones will become a problem, but also their lower availability, which we already saw when Steam Deck was no longer available in our country.
Does this mean that prices will shoot up on March 1st? Not necessarily. After all, stores will still have goods that arrived in warehouses before this date. Additionally, orders from February, i.e. at the old prices, will not be processed immediately. However, it is possible that stores will raise prices almost immediately.
