Kaspersky’s report shows that Keenadu is an extremely dangerous malware. Once installed, it takes almost complete control over the device. Hackers managed to take over OTA servers and introduce malicious code to update the device. This allows you to modify system libraries, thanks to which the malware runs in the background regardless of the application you are currently using.

Researchers also found Keenadu in smart home camera applications on Google Play, which had approximately 300,000 users. downloads. Once launched, they opened invisible browser tabs to perform activities in the background. Google has confirmed that these programs have already been removed from the store, and known Keenadu variants are blocked by Google Play Protect, even if they come from outside Google Play.

Traces of malware were discovered, among others, in Russia, Japan, Germany, Brazil and the Netherlands. In total, at least 13,000 people were infected with it. devices, or at least that much has been confirmed. The true scale of the threat may be much greater.
