Valve confirms the issue. Are you planning to buy a Steam Deck? Then don’t delay
This statement is visible at the bottom of the Steam Deck page in regions where it is not available for purchase. As you can easily guess, these shortages are related to the current situation on the component market. It reads as follows:
Note: Steam Deck OLED may be temporarily unavailable in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. The Steam Deck LCD 256GB is no longer in production and will no longer be available once sold out
And although the tone seems reassuring, after all, it is about a temporary lack of availability, the problem is serious. Well, there is no question of increasing the availability of DRAM modules on the market and there is no indication that this will change. Additionally, Steam itself is to release two new devices, i.e. the stationary Steam Machine and VR glasses. Therefore, the DRAM modules purchased by Valve must be divided into three projects.
It is also worth noting that the situation is also worse in Poland, where last week there were no problems with the availability of Steam Deck OLED. However, this has changed and the 512 GB model is no longer available in our country. Those interested can only buy the Steam Deck OLED 1 TB, which is priced at PLN 3,099.
As you can see, we may soon run out of devices. The good news is that Lenovo Legion Go S with Steam OS is still available for less than PLN 2,500. Yes, we lose the OLED display and two large touch panels, but we gain a significant increase in power. Currently, it is a worthy alternative, but if this continues, it will be the only option to purchase a device with this system.
