PKP Intercity: forget about the conductor, you validate your ticket yourself

PKP Intercity has announced a number of changes for the coming year that will affect all traveling passengers. The first is Internet access in all carriages. But this change is just the beginning.

At Pendolino, the passenger validates the ticket himself

A ticket is the most important thing a traveler should have. PKP Intercity has just started a pilot of the “self check-in” program, which means that you will have to validate your own ticket after boarding the train.

Not like in buses, more like in planes

Which means one thing, the passenger will have to install and use a dedicated application after boarding the train.

We are already implementing it, i.e. a passenger who enters the train and takes his seat can check in in the mobile application just like in an airplane. This information will be transferred automatically to the conductor terminal, and the conductor will no longer check the passenger’s ticket.

said Joanna Sicińska, member of the management board of PKP Intercity.

Work on creating a system enabling marking the use of a ticket by a passenger and reading this information from the conductor is in full swing. If implementation takes place, we will certainly not miss this information.

Other planned improvements include tickets with graphic seat reservations, also at transfers. An AI voicebot will also be introduced soon to operate the PKP Intercity hotline, which will increase the throughput of the hotline and the number of received calls. Ticket offices, in turn, will soon be equipped with monitors on which buyers will be able to observe transaction details and choose seats.
