Did you receive a BLIK transfer by mistake? Absolutely don’t do this
The situation may not seem suspicious in any way. You receive an unknown transfer to your BLIK phone. After a while, a person contacts you and asks for a refund of the money transferred by mistake because he entered the wrong phone number. You agree because you have no reason to refuse. Well, you’ve just become a cog in a fraud.
Fraud using BLIK
The case is described by the website Bankier.pl. What is the fraud? Criminals place sales ads on the Internet in which they provide random or somehow intercepted phone numbers. They select BLIK phone transfer as the payment method. The buyer pays only, e.g. to our account.
After this, the criminals contact the person whose number they provided and ask for a refund of the money sent by mistake. The thing is that they provide a different account or telephone number from which the money came, in this case their own number, which is probably on a pole.
What happens next? The person who purchased the item reports to the police because the package never arrives. In the application, she provides our telephone number, because that’s where she made the transfer. This is where our problems begin. The officers come to us asking for explanations. We are talking about an erroneous transfer, but it does not change the fact that it is a lot of trouble and unnecessary translation.
What can you do in such a situation? First of all, do not return the transfer immediately. It is best to report the matter to the bank, which will check the transactions and safely return the money to the accountfrom which the money came. You should not act hastily, even if in good faith.
