The 36-year-old found a wallet with documents, cash and a payment card. However, he did not intend to look for the owner or give the lost item to anyone. Instead, he did something completely different.

He used someone else’s card to pay contactless in several stores in Kościan. Now he faces a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
He lost his wallet and it all started
The entire incident took place in Kościan. The injured party lost his wallet and that’s how the whole story began. The wallet contained documents, PLN 3,000 in cash and a payment card. Immediately after the man realized that he did not have his wallet with him, he reported the matter to the appropriate services. It turned out that the finder was not honest enough to recover the loss. Instead, he decided to do something completely different – go crazy in stores.
He started using the ATM card as his own, making four contactless payments at different stores across the city. He spent over PLN 300 on shopping this way.

An analysis of card payments and monitoring was enough to catch the perpetrator. The police recovered the wallet with the remaining contents and returned it to the injured party. A dishonest finder may now be in big trouble after the whole matter came to light. He has already been charged with misappropriation of property and four burglary charges.
We remind you that contactless payment with someone else’s card is a crime of burglary. This is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
