Chinese companies are stepping up recruiting engineers from the West to develop their own semiconductor production technologies, facing growing concerns about intellectual property theft and threats to national security. Apparently, a company well-known in Poland is leading the way in this respect.

China lacks the necessary technological know-how

Huawei he asked the German workers Zeiss SMTmanufacturer of optics for the world’s best lithography tools from ASMLeven offering them tripling current salaries. These actions have raised concerns among U.S., European and Asian authorities, leading to investigations and regulation.

German intelligence began an investigation following signals from Zeiss employees who feared leakage of sensitive technological knowledge. It is worth emphasizing that Huawei also addressed its offers to other German companies, such as Trumpf. It specializes in lasers for chip production.

Of course this is nothing new to the Chinese way of doing things. Two years ago, the U.S. government required its citizens and green card holders to obtain licenses before working in China’s semiconductor sector on certain products. This resulted in an outflow of specialists from Chinese companies such as AMEC, Huawei and Naura, accelerating recruitment in Europe.

Taiwan has investigated approximately 90 cases of employee takeover attempts from 2020, introducing severe penaltiesincluding up to 12 years in prison for revealing critical solutions. South Korea has also tightened sanctions on unauthorized technology transfersfocusing on former employees helping Chinese companies copy sensitive solutions.

Despite the restrictions introduced, engineers from Asia, Europe and the USA remain relatively open to offers from Chinese companies. Companies like Huawei often use “spray and pray” strategymass contacting potential candidates in the hope of hiring at least a few of them.
