Over time, Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be a very good, maybe even outstanding, game. However, there is no doubt that the Polish production was in disarray at the premiere. There were so many problems and bugs that it was practically impossible to play. How to avoid the same thing when the next installment of The Witcher is released? CD Projekt RED has a plan.

The Witcher 4 will be bigger and better

Charles Tremblay, CD Projekt RED’s vice president of technology, gave an extensive interview to Eurogamer. He admitted that it was not the REDEngine engine that was responsible for the problems at the premiere of Cyberpunk 2077. The decision to switch to Unreal Engine was not made because REDEngine is bad. The reasons lie elsewhere.

The main reason for switching to Unreal Engine 5 is the desire to work on several projects at the same time. So far, the studio has operated unilaterally, focusing on one project. Meanwhile, CD Projekt RED’s plans include not only The Witcher 4 (Project Polaris), but also a continuation of Cyberpunk (Project Orion), as well as a completely new production (Project Hadar).

In addition, Tremblay admitted that thanks to the switch to Unreal Engine 5, they can cooperate with Epic Games, exchange knowledge, ideas and even employees. This will also significantly facilitate the entire process and avoid the mishap that was the premiere of Cyberpunk 2077.

He also admitted that they are very ambitious about the next installment of The Witcher. The game is going to be bigger and better.

The next game we make won’t be any smaller or worse. So it will be better, bigger, greater than The Witcher 3, it will be better than Cyberpunk – because for us this is unacceptable. We don’t want to go backwards.

– said the vice president of CD Projekt RED.
