TSMC with record profits. All thanks to Apple and Samsung
It seems that TSMC will only increase the distance between them and the competition. Even Korean companies prefer to use Taiwanese production facilities.
There are at least several dozen companies from various parts of the world available on the semiconductor manufacturer market. However, leaders can be counted on the fingers of one hand – Samsung, Intel and TSMC. The undisputed king is the Taiwanese, offering the latest lithographs and the greatest processing power.
Koreans are turning away from Samsung
All giants in the industry use TSMC’s services – Apple, AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, MediaTek and many others. And this doesn’t look like it’s going to change. The latest report suggests that the Taiwanese giant will achieve 40% growth in the third quarter of 2024.
The Korea Times cites 22 different analysts and reports that Estimated Q3 2024 net profit for TSMC is expected to be approximately $9.27 billioni.e. the equivalent of over PLN 38 billion. For comparison, in the same period a year ago it was approximately $6.54 billion. So the difference is huge.
The main reasons are: increasing orders due to the race on the artificial intelligence market and increased interest in the latest production processes such as TSMC N3E, i.e. 3 nm class lithography. Neither Samsung nor Intel offers it on a mass scale and with good results. It is even said that some Korean companies gave up the services of the domestic giant in favor of the Taiwanese.
Next year we should see the first systems based on a more advanced one TSMC N3Pwill benefit from this process, among others: Apple M5, A19 and A19 Pro. Analysts do not expect widespread use of 2 nm lithography in the near future, mainly due to the very high production prices of this standard.
